Hay fever!

After much debate we finally settled on an owl pumpkin. I used tiny frisbees we caught at the homecoming parade for the eyes and cardboard for the wings and ears.
My girls were begging for hay. But after the ten minute drive home I was sneezing like crazy!
This time of year brings out the Claritin in me.

Building words!

To practice spelling we build our words out of these magnetic letters. They love handling the letters and searching for the correct one. As they sound it out.

Bridal shower chic!

With girls in tow they get to enjoy all sorts of cheery fun!! We got to stop by a bridal shower and they played a game where ladies break up into groups and try to design a dress out of toilet paper. The girls got to be the models for the wedding dresses!

Partitions

Doing seat work with out being distracted can be a challenge for my little students.
So these foam boards really help! I slit the back of the board in the middle so now it can fold. We taped some folders and envelopes on the board so could slip in some flash cards and seat work pages. So here we have our very own cubicle!
The girls enjoy them and like to peek around them too!

Homecoming! We'll take it!

The high school homecoming parade passes right in front of my parents house. There are very few children that live on the street nowadays so we gathered all the cousins to rake in the loot! The weather was perfect this evening making candy gathering even more enjoyable!
My dad took the time to show the kids how the mailbox worked and the kids were totally interested! It was cute.

Sweet rewards

After earning five stickers the girls get to pull out if the prize jar!
They earn a sticker by good attitude and behavior... but if I have to put someone in time out well they don't get a sticker. It helps us get through our day and encourages cooperation from my little students.

Downtown walk

Downtown we have lots to see ducks, helicopter, army tank, veterans memorial, fountains and more!
We went to a historical cemetery near by that has a popular millennium Jesus! Its really pretty!  The signs says "love one another as I loved you."
The kids were impressed!

Paper people *teaching kids to pray*

Every week the girls draw a name out of our paper people jar. They are die cut people with names of people we know written on them. We pray for these people all week and also do something nice for them, like make a card, bake something or whatever ideas we come up with...its fun.
This week we made chocolate chip pound cakes!!

Art detectives!

In the old court house there is a really lovely free museum!  They often have kid friendly exhibits..they put together scavenger hunts for kids to complete.  My girls love it! They also have questions to ask about the art and we have conversations about their favorite piece. This artist was local and had lots of color! Very appealing to us. I'm grateful this fun activity is available to us.

Tasting for Thailand

Our amazing kids ministry supports two orphans in Thailand and we put on an international food tasting to raise money for the kids. And it was beautiful and tasty!!
I got to make thai salad with rose petals!  It was fun!
My hubs would have loved it!

Bath art

coercion comes in all forms. When weewee refuses tubby time...puffy paint is fail-proof! Always bringing colorful masterpieces to the tub!

More than just sisters

Friends!
Writing goals for home school this was one of my top! That my girls would have genuine friendship...though we have plenty of bickering during the day we've begun to have more and more moments of sweet interaction that blesses my soul! When we dropped everyone off at school for the day my girls had very little of these times if ever.

The Tea party (not political)

I bought the girls a REAL tea set from pier one! They were thrilled since they love to make tea nearly every night! (I buy sleepy chamomile tea)
They put on pretty dresses invited friends, elephant and dinosaur. They put on our "fancy" classical music and danced around the room while the tea steeped. It was really sweet.
I think we will get a lot of use out of our new tea set!

I found alr having a great deal of fun, on bed...

Fire station field trip!!

Not only do they dedicate their lives to saving ours! But they are amazing tour guides always very quick to educate the public. Thats what these firefighters did with our homeschool group today. These guys were so gracious and patient with the kids!
